That’s something I’ve noticed, especially in the black community. Black women are often told to uplift and affirm broke men and are punished when we fail or refuse to do this. Meanwhile black men explicitly talk about their reluctance or refusal to date women who aren’t in a certain tax bracket, and no one says anything. It just shows how the black community tells black women that we are obligated to take the castaways, the dusty’s, and the broken men of the world. But black men never have to deal with the same behavior or brokenness from women. It’s really sexist and exploitative if you ask me.

“Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender.” I come with truth because I care more about the world than I should.
